Since summer is here and last weekend we were free, we decided to take a day trip to Galena Illinois. It was our seventh year wedding anniversary and my father in law’s birthday, so a weekend trip was a perfect way to celebrate. The drive was less than three hours from Chicago and went by quickly.
Galena is a charming town that reminds me of an European village. Historic buildings filled with restaurants, shops, and museums line the Main Street. The city is not very big and only takes a few minutes to walk, but there are many shops to spend time shopping and many restaurants to take a break and enjoy a good meal. Since we only did a day trip, we didn’t spend much time shopping, instead we visited and toured The Historic Dowling House and The Belvedere Mansion. We also enjoyed a relaxed lunch on an outdoor patio.
Being explorers and so close to the Mississippi River, we decided to visit the Mississippi Palisades State Park to enjoy the scenery. The park was quite large and had nice hiking trails.
I had a very relaxed day and enjoyed visiting Galena, and highly recommend visiting this adorable city.
