What is Lifestyle Photography

Lifestyle portrait photography is becoming very popular and more people are choosing lifestyle photography over traditional studio portraits. But what exactly is lifestyle photography? Lifestyle photography is a style of photography which aims to document real life events and people in natural settings. This allows the photographer to capture raw and unfiltered emotions. A child playing with his toys in the living room; parents interacting with their newborn; or a couple enjoying a walk in the park, are prefect examples of lifestyle photography. Does this mean that the photographer will not ask you to pose or interact with you? No, not at all, the photographer will guide you during the session to help you get the best photos in the most natural settings.

Below is a sample of one of my recent lifestyle session of a 2.5 year old enjoying play time during her lifestyle photo session.

Why Should I Have an Engagement Session

Why Have an Engagement Session

Many wedding photographers offer engagement sessions along with wedding photography. It is no coincidence that engagement sessions go hand in hand with wedding photography. Engagement sessions are very valuable to couples about to get married. Often, many couples are not convinced about the value of a professional engagement session and come up with reasons to not have engagement photos taken. Some of the reasons are: we already sent out our save the dates, we already have a lot of photos together, we don’t know what we would do with the engagement photos after the session. Even though those are valid concerns when deciding against an engagement session, it is also important to know all of the benefits of an engagement session.

Most of us never had a chance to work with a professional photographer and if we did it might have only been in a studio setting without our significant other. Even seeing a photographer working at a wedding might only give you a partial picture of how much a couple actually works with the photographer to capture those stunning images. Engagement session gives you an opportunity to experience what it will be like taking photos on your wedding day without the hustle and stress that a wedding can bring. During your engagement session you will get to know the photographer better and they will get to know you and your personality.

Most of us are not professional models and not everyone is comfortable being in front of a camera. An engagement session is a great way to experience being in front of a camera and becoming more comfortable taking numerous photos. The more confident you become taking these photos, the easier it will be for your photographer to capture the romance and sparks that the two of you share. During the session you can practice different poses and styles so when you are short on time during your wedding  you will know what photos are important to you. Having this additional experience working with your photographer will help reduce the stress that you might experience during your wedding and should help you be more confident about the quality and type of images that you will receive.

While you are limited by location choices and time on your wedding day, during your engagement session you can go to wherever your heart desires. You can relive the memories of your engagement, go back to a place that is special to you, go out on a date, take a stroll in the park, or simply relax in the comfort of your own home. The possibilities are endless and the photos and memories you create will be special to the two of you. You won’t be under the stress of a wedding and if the weather does not cooperate you can reschedule your session and still receive personal photos that will capture the love you share.

An engagement session can also be a great opportunity to see how your hair and makeup will look in your wedding photos. There is nothing worse than receiving your wedding photos and seeing that your hair and makeup did not come out as you wished for. To make the most out of your engagement session, go ahead and schedule your hair and makeup trial the same day. You won’t only receive beautiful images of you and your fiancé, but you will also be confident that your hair and makeup will look fabulous on your wedding day.

By having an engagement session, you won’t miss out on a great opportunity to get to know your photographer before your big day. With the confidence you’ll gain during the session, you’ll have one less thing to worry about as you anxiously await your wedding.
